While Einstein eventually went on to enjoy huge accolades and successes, it was Max Talmey, a young man living in his hometown neighborhood, who became not only Albert’s ‘original’ friend but his informal tutor.

It was Max who introduced Einstein to higher mathematics and philosophy, raising new possibilities in Albert’s mind.

A pivotal turning point occurred when Einstein was 16 years old, when Max introduced him to a science series by Aaron Bernstein, in which the author imagined riding alongside electricity that was traveling inside of a telegraph wire.

At the time, it not only entertained Albert, it caused him to ask the question that would dominate his thinking for decades:

What would the electrons of a light beam look like if you could run alongside and look closely in at them?

From there, you know the rest of the story ..

Mr. Einstein’s timeless wisdom continues to inspire Building Managers and thinkers to approach old problems with fresh eyes, fostering ongoing innovation and progress in the ever-evolving landscape of the building sciences.

Here, it inspires and motivates us every day, and forms the basis for our Cooperative’s existence.

That, and the commitment to help our Members reduce their operating expense through sound energy management practices (with industrial power equipment purchased and installed at dramatically reduced prices).

Because what if there had been no Max Talmey, the tutor and connector?

And what if there had been no Aaron Bernstein, the generator and conveyor of creative imagination?

The world will never know, and that’s a very good thing.

So here’s to their memory, as their contributions were imperative to the critical path of progress.

When Building Managers work together to determine which technologies and processes are effective, and then share that new knowledge and experience with each other, energy consumption and generation can be impacted in extraordinary ways.

It’s the network that creates conditions for emergence, and through the network being created at U.S. Power Alliance, serious conservation, efficiency and generation efforts are underway. We expect tremendous results.

We’re a Buying Cooperative

U.S. Power Alliance is the first cooperative in the nation organized for, and managed by, a consortium of medium and small-sized firms, each of which manufacturing or food processing in nature and interested in being a part of a larger buying group. The cooperative is engaged in the purchase of state-of-the-art industrial power equipment, measurement, and control technologies. It negotiates with cutting-edge technology providers on behalf of its Member Firms, for access to a variety of proprietary systems that can be procured and utilized at significantly enhanced pricing.

It’s the classic result when people pool their resources to consolidate their power; in this case using their collective influence to encourage technology companies to offer them the same pricing as the Fortune 500 companies.

Here’s the problem, and as a result of that, the opportunity: the middle market is overlooked. There is an entire segment of mid-sized and smaller industrial Facilities and Energy Managers currently being ignored, and this is why we exist.

We ask you to join U.S. Power Alliance, a cooperative formed exclusively to pursue building-oriented energy efficiency purposes, and increase the purchasing power of its members.

Collectively, we’ll work together to transform facilities under our management with an ever-growing knowledge and technologies pool.

It’s a private opportunity, with the first 20 accepted applicants becoming ‘Founding Fellows’, poised to take advantage of the benefits of the alliance both immediately, and ongoing as the Membership learns and grows.

We’re Building a Network

We work so that smaller, local efforts can become a force for change; ultimately creating radical change as they take things to scale. Systems begun as small networks will eventually become communities of practice, and evolve into powerful, comprehensive networks capable of much larger influence. The 15 energy consuming systems typically found in a manufacturing or or food processing facility is our focus. Measurement and control is another of our focuses. And all are facilitated with cloud-based, data-driven approaches to energy management.

We’re Bringing Money

Government organizations are ready to contribute, each with its unique attributes to enhance the alliance’s ability to collaborate on and support the mission of reduced consumption, increased onsite generation, and resulting economic savings, over the collective square footage represented by our membership. The intrinsic characteristics of some of these organizations – including their authorities, competencies, human and financial resources, information, and relationships – are of critical value to our members, and these are welcomed to the cooperative in the roles of funders or advisors.

While many larger industrial organizations have well-established energy efficiency programs run by skilled and connected professionals, other entities have little or no experience or resources for implementing energy efficiency measures. When capital budgets for energy efficiency initiatives can be leveraged with government grants, tax credits and shared savings programs to target retrofit measures with the largest and most cost-effective energy saving potential, less private investment is necessary, and greater returns on that investment are achieved.

Our network consists of a diverse – but focused – set of players with three primary goals: 1) greater resource efficiencies; 2) reductions in energy consumption and increases in onsite generation; and 3) the minimization of carbon emitted into the atmosphere. These are not only the goals of the cooperative – these collectively form its mission.
